About the Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced
Head of Development Management
to lead the planning and development team for a
Council Client in Wiltshire
. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing
development management, planning applications, and ensuring compliance with national and local planning policies
. The role requires
strong strategic leadership, stakeholder engagement, and performance management
to drive high-quality development and place-shaping initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide strategic direction and leadership to the
Development Management service
.
Ensure effective determination of
planning applications and enforcement matters
.
Manage stakeholder relationships, including
elected members, local communities, and statutory bodies
.
Lead the
cultural and organisational change
within the service, embedding a
customer-focused approach
.
Develop a robust
performance framework
to track and enhance service delivery.
Oversee the service’s
budget, income projections, and financial sustainability
.
Represent the council at
regional and national planning events
.
Ensure the team is up to date with
planning legislation and policy changes
.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Degree in Town Planning or a related field
(or equivalent knowledge and experience).
Postgraduate qualification and membership of a relevant professional body
(e.g., RTPI).
Proven experience in a
senior planning role within local government
.
Strong
leadership and management skills
, with experience leading large teams.
Expertise in
managing major planning applications, appeals, and enforcement
.
Excellent
stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills
.
Experience in
budget management and service improvement
.
