Interim Major Projects Officer

Hybrid Working Arrangement-
but first week onsite
Duties:

Lead on the planning, development, and delivery of major capital projects, ensuring they align with council objectives and statutory requirements.

Oversee procurement processes, contract negotiations, and project management frameworks, ensuring compliance with local government regulations.

Manage budgets, funding applications, and financial reporting, ensuring projects are delivered within agreed timescales and cost constraints.

Coordinate with internal departments, external consultants, contractors, and stakeholders to facilitate project delivery.

Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to ensure project success.

Prepare reports and presentations for senior management, elected members, and external funding bodies.

Ensure projects meet sustainability, accessibility, and health & safety standards.

Engage with residents, businesses, and community groups to communicate project goals and progress effectively.
Requirements:
-
Proven experience in managing large-scale infrastructure, regeneration, or capital projects within a public sector or local government environment.

Strong knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, APM) and procurement frameworks.

Understanding of relevant planning, construction, and environmental legislation.

Budget management and financial reporting experience, including securing and managing external funding sources.

Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritise workloads, and meet tight deadlines.

Relevant qualification in project management, construction, engineering, or a related field.
