Are you passionate about supporting young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning?

We are currently looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a school in Lewisham , supporting students with social, emotional and mental health needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is patient, resilient and committed to making a genuine difference in the lives of young people. The role will involve working closely with teachers and students to create a positive, supportive learning environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive.

The Role

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Work alongside teachers to help deliver engaging and excellent education.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students and encourage their confidence and self-esteem.
  • Support students with challenging behaviour using calm, consistent and positive approaches.
  • Help students develop their social, emotional and communication skills.
  • Encourage positive engagement with learning and support students to reach their potential.
  • Contribute to a safe, nurturing and inclusive school environment.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEMH, SEND or specialist setting.
  • A good understanding of ADHD and Autism .
  • Experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour .
  • A patient, empathetic and consistent approach.
  • The resilience and confidence to manage challenging situations professionally.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
  • Experience or knowledge of construction would be highly advantageous , particularly for candidates interested in supporting students with practical or vocational learning.
