The Opportunity

A leading Tier 1 contractor is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead the delivery of a new 400kV double-busbar substation, supporting major generation connections and wider network reinforcement.

Project Scope

The project involves a new 400kV double-busbar substation, protection and control systems, grid connections, civil works and interfaces with the wider transmission network.

Role Overview

Lead and coordinate all design activities, multidisciplinary design teams, technical assurance and integration across civil, electrical, mechanical and control disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead design delivery of the 400kV transmission substation.
- Coordinate design teams, consultants and specialist suppliers.
- Manage design programmes, reviews, approvals and technical queries.
- Ensure compliance with client specifications, transmission standards, CDM, HSEQ and quality requirements.
- Drive buildability, value engineering and risk reduction.

Required Experience

- Proven Design Manager experience on major infrastructure or power projects.
- Multidisciplinary design leadership in a Tier 1 or major project environment.
- NEC3/NEC4 and strong stakeholder-management skills.

Highly Desirable

- High-voltage transmission experience.
- Exposure to 400kV, 275kV or 132kV substations.
- Knowledge of double-busbar substations, protection and control, OHL or cable interfaces.
