The Opportunity

Hours: 30-37.5 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Management Accountant to join a growing business during a period of expansion.

Working as part of a collaborative finance team, you will support a diverse portfolio of businesses across the construction and hospitality sectors. This is a varied role offering exposure to management accounting, project accounting, commercial analysis, VAT compliance, and business partnering.

The position would suit someone looking to build on existing finance experience in a role that combines month-end reporting with operational and commercial involvement.



The Role
Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting & Control
    • Support the preparation of monthly management accounts, including profit & loss reporting and balance sheet reconciliations.
    • Maintain robust financial controls and processes.
    • Ensure the efficient flow of information between financial systems.
    • Assist with wider finance projects and ad hoc activities.
  • Project Accounting
    • Monitor project costs against budgets.
    • Work closely with operational teams to ensure accurate recording of purchases and subcontractor costs.
    • Review work in progress, accruals and project profitability.
    • Ensure costs are appropriately allocated across projects.
  • Compliance & Tax
    • Support the preparation and review of VAT returns.
    • Assist with HMRC compliance requirements.
    • Support compliance with industry-specific regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Business Partnering
    • Provide insight into project margins, cost overruns and contract performance.
    • Work closely with operational stakeholders to support commercial decision-making.

The Person
About You
  • Essential
    • Previous experience in a similar finance role.
    • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems.
    • Ability to identify issues and implement process improvements.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Desirable
    • Part-qualified ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.
    • Experience of project accounting or construction accounting environments.
    • Knowledge of WIP, CIS and retention accounting.
    • Experience using cloud-based finance or operational systems
