Mechanical Engineer Capital Programmes

We are working with Manchester City Council to find a Mechanical Engineer on an interim basis.

Location: Manchester Town Hall, 3 days per week in office.
Job Type : Full-time
Hourly rate: £40 per hour umbrella
Length of role: Initial 6 months

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a proven track record in construction to join our dynamic team within the Capital Programmes Division at Manchester City Council. This role is crucial for the strategic development and delivery of a complex programme of projects, aiming to contribute significantly to the city's growth and infrastructure improvement.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

- Design and specification of Mechanical Building Services including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and more, adhering to current standards and regulations.

- Lead the project management and delivery of medium-sized Mechanical Building Service-related projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality expectations.

- Provide specialist advice and guidance to internal and external customers, making technical and professional recommendations within the Mechanical discipline.

- Manage external consultants to ensure project delivery aligns with KPIs and quality standards.

- Support the Engineering Team Leader in the effective delivery of all Building Service-related projects.

- Engage in proactive liaison with other services within the council and across disciplines within the design team to ensure cohesive service delivery.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

- HND/HNC degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or a related field, or a recognised engineering apprenticeship with substantial post-qualification experience.

- Experience in Mechanical Building Services design and delivery, preferably within the public sector.

- Proficiency in HEVACOMP, CAD 2D/3D, and ideally some knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modelling).

- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage risks and monitor contractor performance effectively.

- Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex information clearly and influencing key stakeholders.

- Working towards attaining a formal professional qualification with a relevant engineering body such as the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering or Building Services Engineers.
