Location: easily commutable from Bristol or Bath, with parking (Office-based currently, with plans to introduce hybrid working)
Hours: 9:00am – 5:00pm, Monday to Friday office based

The Opportunity

A well-established and highly respected accountancy practice is seeking an Accounts Semi Senior (AAT or ACCA PQ) to join their growing team. This is a brand-new position created due to continued business growth rather than staff turnover, reflecting the firm's strong culture and excellent staff retention. In the last 24 months, this company engaged 4 new hires, with all positions available from business growth and expansion.

You'll join a friendly and supportive Accounts & VAT subteam of five and report directly to the Accounts Manager, and work alongside 10-12 additional team members in the office. The line manager for this position is a highly experienced manager who has been with the business for 25 years and worked his way up. The firm has a strong track record of promoting from within and investing in employee development, including supporting staff through professional qualifications. They are friendly, relaxed, supportive and always work together and help eachother.

The Role

The successful candidate will be heavily involved in accounts preparation, VAT and CIS work, with most clients operating on Xero.

  • Preparing and submitting accurate VAT returns in line with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements. You'll review client bookkeeping records, identify discrepancies, ensure the correct VAT treatment has been applied, and liaise with clients where additional information is required before submission.
  • CIS and VAT processing and reconciliations

    Managing Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) transactions and VAT records for a varied client portfolio. This includes checking subcontractor deductions, reconciling CIS suffered and deducted, reviewing VAT accounts, and ensuring all balances agree to underlying records and HMRC requirements.
  • Reconciling payroll and CIS records

    Working closely with payroll data to reconcile PAYE, National Insurance, pension contributions and CIS deductions.
  • Preparing statutory accounts for limited companies

    Assisting with the preparation of year-end statutory accounts for a broad range of owner-managed businesses, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and deadlines.The firm acts for approximately 350 limited companies and around 1,200 clients overall , providing exposure to a wide variety of businesses and individuals.
  • Working extensively with Xero: Around 90% of clients use Xero , making it the primary software used within the role.
