Job Title: Building Manager for a Performing Arts Academy
Job Summary:
The Building Manager ensures the effective operation, maintenance, and safety of a performing arts academy's facilities, which include a 15,000 sq. ft. main building and a separately located smaller studio. By maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, functionality, and safety, the Building Manager plays a vital role in fostering an environment that supports creative expression, education, and community engagement.
Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months
Pay: £42,000-£45,000 per year
This full-time, on-site position offers a flexible shift schedule, including options such as 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The required working days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
Key Responsibilities:
Facility MaintenanceManage daily operations, including cleaning, repairs, and routine inspections.
Coordinate with contractors to ensure planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs comply with policies and procedures.
Oversee and ensure the functionality of all equipment, including lighting, sound systems, and HVAC.
Conduct regular patrols to maintain cleanliness, security, and adherence to health and safety standards.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, including ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
Conduct regular safety drills, inspections, and maintenance of emergency systems (e.g., fire alarms and extinguishers).
Identify and address potential hazards promptly to provide a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Oversee scheduling, setup, and allocation of classrooms, rehearsal spaces, and performance venues.
Support artistic and administrative teams in organizing performances, rehearsals, and special events.
Ensure spaces are prepared and equipped according to event requirements.
Provide on-site support during events to manage facility-related needs.
Develop and monitor the facilities maintenance and operations budget.
Maintain inventory of supplies, equipment, and materials, optimizing resources to minimize costs without compromising quality.
Recruit, train, and supervise janitorial, security, and maintenance staff.
Coordinate staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
Provide regular performance feedback and promote adherence to academy standards.
Act as the primary point of contact for facility-related inquiries from staff, students, and external clients.
Address building-related concerns promptly and professionally.

Qualifications & Skills:
Education: A-levels or further education in facilities management, business administration, or a related field is preferred.
Experience: Proven experience in building or facility management, ideally in a performing arts or educational setting.
Skills:
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with building systems, including HVAC, lighting, and security.
Knowledge of safety regulations and building codes.
Competency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools.
Experience in budgeting and resource management.
Work Conditions:
