I’m currently supporting a Local Authority with a requirement for an experienced Planning Officer. Please see below for further details:

Planning Officer

Contract: 6 months initially, subject to further extension

Location: Hybrid working – office attendance required as needed

Rate: Negotiable dependent on experience – Inside IR35

Key focus of the role:

• Manage a caseload of complex, major and politically sensitive planning applications from pre-application stage through to determination

• Provide high-quality pre-application advice to developers, landowners and stakeholders on major development proposals

• Undertake site inspections, research and planning assessments, ensuring proposals are considered against national and local planning policy

• Lead negotiations with applicants, developers and professional agents, including Section 106 Agreements and Planning Performance Agreements

• Consult and engage with statutory consultees, local communities, councillors, town and parish councils and other key stakeholders

• Prepare detailed officer reports, committee reports and recommendations for complex planning applications

• Present applications and related planning matters at Planning Committee and other member meetings

• Lead multidisciplinary development teams for major applications and provide project oversight throughout the planning process

• Prepare appeal statements and evidence, representing the Council at Public Inquiries, Hearings and Written Representation appeals where required

• Support planning enforcement investigations and assist in the preparation of enforcement cases

• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior planning officers and assist with the supervision and development of team members

• Deputise for senior management where required and contribute to wider service improvement initiatives
